Ontological Modelling of Surgical Knowledge
نویسندگان
چکیده
Computer Assisted Surgery seeks data from various sources related to surgical knowledge, which is mostly represented in the form of discrete databases. However, databases serve as data storage mechanism rather than knowledge representation system. As CAS is becoming more common for various types of surgical interventions, there is a need for representation, storage and processing of surgical knowledge in a more structured manner. The traditional way of using databases to store the data needs to be augmented with a conceptual representation mechanism, which can serve as a bonding layer among the various sources of surgical knowledge. Ontological modelling provides the means to represent conceptual knowledge using expressive formal logics. The scope of this paper is to present how CAS knowledge can be represented using ontological modelling, and make use if it in the real time applications in the Operating Room.

Contributions to the Ontological Foundation of Knowledge Modelling
In the present paper we make some contributions to the emerging eld of so-called ontological engineering. In detail, we discuss the principles underlying knowledge acquisition from an axiomaticdeductive point of view. Then we turn to the notion of an ontology and the connection between ontology and knowledge systems. An ontology comprises ontologically basic relations such as membership, part-w...
متن کاملLayered Ontological Modelling for Web Service-Oriented Model-Driven Architecture
Modelling is recognised as an essential activity in the architectural design of software systems. Model-driven architecture (MDA) is a framework implementing this idea. Ontologies are knowledge representation frameworks that are ideally suited to support modelling in this endeavour. We propose here a layered ontological framework that addresses domain modelling, architectural modelling, and int...
متن کاملExploring Proposed Ontological Issues of ARIS with Four Different Types of Modellers
Many organisations in Australia and world-wide are adopting the practice of business process modelling for reasons such as Business Process Management (BPM) and new legislation requirements. As these modelling tasks are often time consuming and expensive, it is important that the tools and techniques that are used can effectively capture the real world systems being modelled. Numerous studies h...
متن کاملOntological Knowledge and Language in Modelling Classical Architectonic Structures
This article will concern the specification of the conceptual and linguistic constraints for the construction of a knowledge base in classical architecture, an operation that involves the structuring of the concepts of the domain to which appropriate linguistic terms must be associated. Our approach will take into account models of conceptual dictionaries proposed in computational linguistics a...
متن کاملProzessbasiertes Knowledge engineering in medizinischen Problemdomänen
Knowledge elicitation and knowledge modelling have always played an important role within the context of Knowledge Engineering and have as such been named the „bottleneck of system development“. However the phase of elicitation and representation of knowledge is highly responsible for the quality of knowledge-intensive systems being developed. Knowledge-intensive and complex problem domains for...
